I have been asked about attire for the wedding. Buried in the website details we had outlined as ‘cocktail’ … we want you to feel good as you are :-).
Parking
I have been advised by the hotel that if you valet park at the Fairmont Pacific Rim the cost is $35 for the evening (not overnight if you leave your car), which is a reduced rate and comparable I understand to the rate for the duration of other nearby lots. (I have not price compared myself, however). Please advise when you leave your vehicle that you are there for Tricia & Murray’s wedding to receive this reduced rate.
We (and many of you ….) have been waiting a long time for this day to arrive. Most of you know that Murray planned an exquisitely romantic proposal to me on the island of Lanai on February 4, 2017.
Our friends & family have since then asked repeatedly.… so? when is the wedding? What are you waiting for? Why don’t you pick a fun destination and whoever can join will? Maybe you want to elope? Why don’t you just have a small ceremony in your beautiful backyard?
Many possibilities ~ ~ absolutely! HOWEVER, what we have always desired and envisioned for our wedding day AND what is MOST IMPORTANT to us – is to have a local celebration enabling us to incorporate all the cornerstone people in our respective lives’ journey. In our 5th decade of life – the collection of influential friendships that our lifetimes have been blessed with and built upon ~ people that have been meaningful and fundamental contributors in defining who we are today ~ spans friendships of different ‘eras’ of our lives.
Today would not be possible for Murray and me, as we would not be who we are today, if we had not had the good fortune to live, love, learn and grow with each one of you. You each have graced us with your love and friendship and are part of the web of experiences and connections that brings us to today where we can all share in that joy together.

The Couple
Timing is Everything ~ the beginning

Murray and I were so fortunate to find each other in 2016. Despite our mere three-year age difference, we had lived parallel lives since early childhood BUT … our paths never crossed.
We attended the same elementary school (Kerrisdale); the same high school (Magee); the same post-secondary institution (UBC); We each spent many hours at the Arbutus Club; We have learned that we have literally hundreds of mutual friends and acquaintances, that we attended the same parties, and were both VERY REGULAR patrons at Vancouver’s most popular watering holes.
BUT …. When the time was right in both of our lives – the internet stepped up and facilitated a magical alignment of these unknowingly parallel journeys.
Imagine the luck of meeting someone you have ‘almost’ known yet never known for your whole life. Not only were we ‘found’ to each other it was easy to feel that these ‘strangers’ that we were to each other were ‘familiar and safe’ because social media informed us that we had 200+ ‘friends in common’. So, there were easy calls to make to ‘check character references’ 😎
On January 30, 2016, we had our first date. While on reflection our first date was full of mis-haps including watching an unknowingly controversial movie (Spotlight), trying to find a restaurant for dinner without a reservation during dine out Vancouver – resulting in a mediocre meal at a restaurant we have never and would never return to, and a minor car accident (Murray was so nervous he backed into a wall – in spite of the back-up camera and the very loud beeping noises). We both knew we had made a connection that was very special and the path we were on was going to last the rest of our lives.

Please Note ~~ these rates rates are based on hotel occupancy and a first come first served basis (meaning that rates will fluctuate with booking levels at the hotels).
With the exception of the Pan Pacific, where a block of rooms is being held and a rate has been guaranteed.
You may find better pricing through online booking aggregators (such as Expedia) or other discount rates you might have access to.
